Marketed as one of the toughest obstacle races in the world, Spartan Race definitely isn’t for the faint-hearted! It was also one of the first events to have a global ranking leaderboard as it challenged both beginners and elite athletes to push themselves harder than ever before. Yes, no matter what your fitness level there’s a Spartan Race for you!
However, in order to raise as much money they possibly could for the DC Emily, our founder, and her 5-person team of ‘Spartans’ elected to compete in the toughest one of all. Emily-Jane Stapley, Michel Zimmermann, Ailine Freestone, Chris Hepworth, and Genalda Silva, crawled, monkey barred, ran, jumped, climbed and even carried huge sandbags through London’s Olympic Park. In total, they each ran over 7k (4.3 miles) and traversed twenty obstacles all in the name of dementia!
Each person ran with the name of their loved one with the condition emblazoned on their Spartan T-Shirt and took each challenge in their stride as they pushed their way to a team victory. Over £700 was raised for the Dementia Cafe, a fantastic amount that’s spurred us on towards our £5,000 target to officially register the Dementia Cafe as a UK charity. For those of you who love taking on these kind of fitness, challenges watch this space as the DC & Friends are taking part in this year’s Color Obstacle Rush!
