‘People say “Oh, you don’t look like you’ve got dementia.” Well, you know, what do people with dementia look like?’ asks Sue Strachan. Strachan, aged 62, is planning to run in this year’s London Marathon.
Strachan, from Herefordshire, was diagnosed with vascular dementia in December 2012, and she started running to get fit on a suggestion from her GP.

‘I really, really want to complete it to show people that it is possible to live well with dementia,’ Strachan states for her reason for running the marathon. She is also running to raise funds for Alzheimer’s Research UK, one of 300 people running for the cause, however, Strachan is the only one with dementia.
Strachan is out to challenge perceptions about dementia and is determined to show that you can have the disease and still run a marathon.
From everyone at the DC we wish Sue all the best with her 26 miles!
