Here at the DC our founder Emily has raised funds for the Alzheimer’s Society before. WHo remembers the Ben Nevis Midnight climb?
Today we’ve been asked by Emre’s Mum Kayley to share their Alz Soc campaign.
Growing up my life wasn’t easy, my nan took me under her wing and helped to raise me into the 33year old I am today.
She is my world, I had my eldest son at a young age so she helped me raise him too.
8years ago due to unforeseen circumstances, I had to move about 3hours away from my nan.
Then around 2years later she got diagnosed with dementia. Gradually it’s got worse, it’s so hard to see the person you love more than anything fade away in front of you. I travel back to see her as much as I can, I’m a working mum now with three children.
Seeing her little face light up when we all go there is the most amazing feeling. She’s now in a care home, only the last few weeks. It’s all so much too digest, you ask so many questions. 1) why my nan 2) I should be caring for her 3) how can she forget I went there yesterday 4) I wonder if she’s in any pain. And so on… Alzheimer’s affects the people around them, more than themselves. As they forget. It’s just an awful disease.
My son is doing a 10k run on the 4th May to try and raise money to help one day to find a cure, also to help raise awareness. He got a few friends to try and help him raise money too, the more people involved it might help.?? The pain I go through I want to try and not let others including my own children go through this. Thanks for listening. -Kayely
We say the more raised to help those with dementia, the better.
Please support Emre in his 10k run.
